Open Book and Board of Review: Notice of Board of Review and Open Book For the Town of Fox Lake               NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN that the completed assessment roll for the Town of Fox Lake will be open for inspection at the Town Hall on the following dates, OPEN BOOK, Thursday July 9th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.   NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Review for the Town of Fox Lake shall hold its first meeting on Monday August 10, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Town Hall, W10543 County Road F, Fox Lake.                             FURTHER BE ADVISED that the Assessor for the Town of Fox Lake will be present at the time and place designated above as “OPEN BOOK”. Please contact the Assessor’s office at 1-800-770-3927 for an appointment to meet with the Assessor at the “Board of Review” to discuss any concerns you may have regarding your property assessment.  THIS SHOULD BE YOUR “FIRST STEP” IN RESOLVING ANY DISPUTED ASSESSMENT, YOU MAY FIND THAT IT WILL NOT BE NECESSARY TO FILE OBJECTION FORMS TO APPEAR BEFORE THE BOARD OF REVIEW.  Instructional materials will be available at that time.                 Please be advised of the following requirements to appear before the Board of Review and procedural requirements if appearing before the Board:                 No person shall be allowed to appear before the Board of Review, to testify to the Board by telephone or to contest the amount of any assessment of real or personal property if the person has refused a reasonable written request by certified mail of the Assessor to view such property.                 After the first meeting of the Board of Review and before the Board’s final adjournment, no person who is scheduled to appear before the Board of Review may contact, or provide information to, a member of the Board about the person’s objection except at a session of the Board.                 No person may appear before the Board of Review, testify to the Board by telephone or contest the amount of assessment unless, at least 48 hours before the first meeting of the Board or at least 48 hours before the objection is heard if the objection is allowed because the person has been granted a waiver of the 48-hour notice of an intent to file a written objection by appearing before the Board during the first two hours of the meeting and showing good cause for failure to meet the 48-hour notice requirement and files a written objection, that the person provides to the Clerk of the Board of Review notice as to whether the person will ask for removal of any Board members and, if so, which member will be removed and the person’s reasonable estimate of the length of time that the hearing will take.                 When appearing before the Board, the person shall specify, in writing, the person’s estimate of the value of the land and of the improvements that are the subject of the person’s objection and specify the information that the person used to arrive at that estimate.                 No person may appear before the Board of Review, testify to the Board by telephone or subject or object to a valuation; if that valuation was made by the Assessor or the Objector using the income method; unless the person supplies the Assessor all of the information about income and expenses, as specified in the manual under Sec 73.03(2a), that the Assessor requests.  The Town of Fox Lake has an ordinance for the confidentiality of information about income and expenses that is provided to the Assessor under this paragraph which provides exemptions for persons using information in the discharge of duties imposed by law or of the duties of their office or by order of a court.  The information that is provided under this paragraph, unless a court determined that it is inaccurate, is not subject to the right of inspection and copying under Section 19.35 (1) of Wis. Statutes.                 The Board shall hear upon oath, by telephone, all ill or disabled persons who present to the Board a letter from a physician, surgeon or osteopath that confirms their illness or disability. VOTING BY ABSENTEE BALLOT

 

Any qualified elector who is unable or unwilling to appear at the polling place on Election Day may request to vote an absentee ballot. A qualified elector is any U.S. citizen, who will be 18 years of age or older on Election Day, who has resided in the ward or municipality where he or she wishes to vote for at least 28 consecutive days before the election. The elector must also be registered to receive an absentee ballot.

 

TO OBTAIN AN ABSENTEE BALLOT YOU MUST MAKE A REQUEST IN WRITING.

 

Contact your municipal clerk and request that an application for an absentee ballot be sent to you for the primary or election or both. You may also request an absentee ballot by letter. Your written request must contain your voting address within the municipality where you wish to vote, the address where the absentee ballot should be sent, if different, and your signature.

 

Special absentee voting application provisions apply to electors who are indefinitely confined to home or a care facility, in the military, hospitalized, or serving as a sequestered juror. If this applies to you, contact the Municipal Clerk.

 

You can also personally go to the clerk’s office or other specified location and vote an absentee ballot during the hours specified for casting an absentee ballot.
